Thrilled to collaborate with European-based label Spasibo on this very limited pressing of “Hit ‘Em Like Ali”.

This song is an homage to the heavy-weight boxing champion and poet Muhammad Ali. Depicting the famous 1975 “Thrilla in Manila” fight (Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier), it’s 3minutes 27seconds of funk on wax.

I’ve been inspired by ‘The Greatest’ for years. Ali’s attitude, discipline and stage persona is the stuff of legend.

Boxing is in the family DNA. My Dad was an amateur fighter and my Uncle Les was ‘Aussie’ Joe Bugner’s trainer. Dad had some gear in his shed and taught me how to throw a punch as a young kid when I started getting bullied. That’s how I got started.

I could never find a track that was the right pacing to play during a boxing workout. So I wrote this. I wanted to give it a 1970’s action sequence, car chase-vibe, so I had the band play this one pretty fast. It’s a drum workout! It’s been a fan favourite at live shows, but I never released it as a single until now.

The track features my friend and long-time collaborator Jake Mason (Cookin’ on 3 Burners) on horns and organ, Ivan ‘Choi’ Khatchoyan on drums (Cookin’ on 3 Burners/The Traffic), Lucas Taranto on bass (Gotye), Mitch Power on Guitar (Deep Street Soul), Phil Binotto on percussion (The Bamboos), Adrain Perger on Trumpet and Candice Monique on backing vocals.
